LAWRENCE POOL CENTER |

Emergency Clean-up - Lawrence, Massachesetts
The owners of the Lawrence Pool Center enlisted ECSI as the remediation team to clean up their pool services facility, after a hazardous chemical fire devastated the site. ECSI complied a team of consultants and HAZMAT certified personnel in the clean up and removal of such materials as Asbestos and multiple pool chemicals.
During the night of the fire, the various pool chemicals stored on site exploded, causing major structural damage to the facility, resulting in a total loss of the building.
When contacted by the owner Paul Chardon, ECSI took emergency response action to containing the site to insure that chemical or asbestos contamination would not enter into any storm drains, which in some cases lead to the adjacent Shawsheen River. With fear of possible aquatic life being threatened and with the high levels of Ph around the site, ECSI worked rapidly to set up catch basins to collect all runoff. The runoff was pumped into and stored in 21,000 gallon frac tanks for testing and eventual treatment. ECSI hired chemical engineers to assist with the possibility of lowering water ph by shock treatment for discharge and /or disposal.
This project also included the removal of asbestos materials such as roofing and pipe insulation. The site clean up took approximately two weeks complete and was released by EPA and MA DEP officials for demolition. Due to the quick response by ECSI team the Chardon’s were able to get their business back up and running prior to their busy Spring season.
